North Carolina Teachers:
Ms. Kenia Rios
Ms. Rios was born in Long Island, New York. Her family is originally from El Salvador and she has native proficiency in Spanish. She serves as an interpreter for ESL students and their families. She has also spent time as an Urban Youth in Schools intern in which she worked individually with students as a literacy facilitator to help them further develop and strengthen their reading and writing skills. This also included leading literacy volunteer trainings for organizations in the community. Ms. Rios has also served as an interpreter for Hispanic families during her time as a volunteer for Levine Children's Hospital. She has a strong passion for working with children and looks forward to helping students learn Spanish in a fun, exciting, and creative way!
Ms. Lauren Hoffman
Ms. Lauren is studying at UNCC, where she is pursuing a degree in Spanish, foreign language education, and political science. She is passionate about teaching and working with children and adolescents. She fell in love with Spanish when she took it in highschool. Now she is taking many classes at the University. She has been taking Spanish classes for 6 years and has spent many summers interpreting/translating at a church in Puerto Rico. She is excited to share her love of Spanish with students.
Ms. Mirna Garcia
Ms. Garcia was born and raised in southern California until the age of twelve and then moved across the country to the state of North Carolina. She was brought up in a bilingual household, which allowed her to gain two sets of language skills. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Ms. Garcia pursued her interest in language majoring in both English and Spanish and minoring in Linguistics. Ms. Garcia is now in the process of completing her Master's degree in Spanish at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a focus area in Language and Translation. Ms. Garcia enjoys sharing her love for language to others, especially the youth and upcoming generations, in hopes of providing them with a new life skill - speaking another language. Ms. Garcia is thrilled to be part of the Sarah's Spanish School team and is currently working in Charlotte, North Carolina area schools.
Ms. Cecilia Beckwith
Ms. Cecilia, or Miss Ceci as her students call her, is excited to introduce herself as the
Spanish teacher who will be teaching your children at Grand Oak Elementary, along with Miss Katy Ramirez.
She is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach a new language to young learners and looks forward to the
time spent practicing Spanish together. She is a Spanish native speaker born and raised in Lima, Peru
where she obtained a degree in Language Translation and Interpretation from Ricardo Palma University. She
moved to the US 6 years ago and has been living in Huntersville, NC for the past year. Her first Spanish
students were her husband and children who are now bilingual! Ms. Ceci loves the Spanish language and thinks that being able to pass it on to children is both a priviledge and a
Ms. Yanire Castro
Ms. Yanire was Born and raised in Honduras, Central America. She studied Tourism Administration worked in several areas related to customer service. Ms. Yanire moved to the United States three years ago, and currently lives in Charlotte with her family. She's very excited to have the opportunity to teach a new language to children as a way to begin to understand different cultures and open doors in the future.
Ms. Pilar Mora Rincon
Pilar is a born and raised Colombian, so her first language is Spanish! She has a Bachelor’s in Teaching Language, and she has been teaching children for nine years. Pilar has been in the U.S. for a couple of years now, and during that time she taught a class in English and Spanish, which she really enjoyed. She loves reading about history and spending time with family. Pilar looks forward to working with the teachers and students of Sarah’s Spanish School!

Miriam was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, but her family is from Iran. She graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2017 with a degree in Hispanic Linguistics and spent her following summer in Guatemala! She is an assistant teacher in Charlotte and has also spent the last year as an ESL teacher at an academy for Hispanic adults in Charlotte. Miriam is currently getting her Master’s in Spanish from Middlebury College in Vermont! Miriam teaches at our CMS schools.
Ms. Alicia Rosa
Ms. Alicia was born and raised in Chile, South America. She has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and worked in Chile for more than ten years. She moved to the U.S. twelve years ago, and now lives in Charlotte, NC and have been working as a Spanish tutor for the last four years. She loves teaching Spanish and working with kids is her passion. She is very excited to have the opportunity to help children learn a new language in a playful and original way!
Ms. Luisa Escobar
Luisa was born and raised in Colombia, South America, so Spanish is her native language. She has worked mostly in the medical field as a health care technician, but has always loved teaching! She spent a few years working with kids that suffer from cerebral palsy, helping them with their daily activities such as doing homework. She has two kids of her own, her daughter who attends a CMS high school and a 9 year old son who loves soccer. An interesting fact about her is that her son plays for a soccer academy from Barcelona, Spain, and every two years they get to go with him to an international tournament! He attends a language immersion program at Oaklawn Language Academy. Luisa believes encouraging children to learn another language is priceless.
