Yesterday while I was teaching a class on healthy vs. unhealthy foods, I thought it was hilarious some of the kids’ reactions to what foods were actually unhealthy for them!
The first one was potatoes.
The fact that we load potatoes with tons of butter, sour cream, salt, and other goodies on top of them already being “starch bombs”, it was surprising to me that the students thought they would be considered healthy food.
They wanted to categorize the potatoes in the same category as spinach, broccoli, and fruits!
It just made me realize once again how cool it is to teach.
Yes, we’re teaching a language here, but we also get to teach our students about health, math, logic, animals, history, holidays, family relationships, space… we just do it all in Spanish!
For example, this week’s online Spanish class theme is “Que delicioso” – FOOD! But our students are going to learn so much more than that!
They’ll be comparing common breakfast foods from different parts of the world, which is where the “reindeer for breakfast” subject line comes into play – can you guess what part of the world that comes from?
We will be teaching them how to react to different food combinations (broccoli ice cream, anyone?)
They will learn a story in Spanish about a boy who just couldn’t stop eating – and they get to create the ending!
We will be learning about typical dishes from Spanish-speaking countries
And on Friday, we’re making PIZZA! So they will be learning how to be safe in the kitchen, how to measure ingredients, and how to cook and be creative with it – all in Spanish!
It’s just so awesome to think of all the cool things our students are learning, while at the same time learning how to communicate and think in a second language. Awesome, right?
Your child can join in time to make pizza with us on Friday! For free! Check it out HERE
It might help to know that the price is going to increase significantly once school starts back up
